Maharajas’ Express, India’s leading luxury tourist train gets the honor of hosting veteran newsman Trevor McDonald. The ITV correspondent explores the country on an 8-day journey and looks deep into its realms to witness the transformations. Thirty years after he visited the South Asian country as a foreign correspondent, the newsman is set to capture all his experiences in a documentary for ITV which goes live on 23 June at 8:00 P.M.
According to Sir Trevor, the true side of India comes alive when taking a train journey that stretches across the timeless land. What better way than traveling in Maharajas’ Express, one of the leading luxury trains that recreate the lifestyle of erstwhile kings of India. The tourist train owned and operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation offers 8 days journeys and runs on 5 circuits. It covers more than 12 destinations spanning over North-West and Central India.
The documentary, Sir McDonald’s Indian Train Adventure captures the changes that took over India after his last visit three decades back. The rush of becoming an economic superpower overtaking Britain, set up of high-tech factories, luxury brimming five-star hotels are what catches the eye in a glance.
Further, the documentary is divided into two parts, the first one covering Delhi and Mumbai. While the capital city of India swings in the cradle of its old and new. Mumbai, on the other hand, is home to the most expensive home on the planet and the largest slum.
Aboard, the famous newsman will continue to share his experiences traversing to Rajasthan and its famous temple where locals worship rats. Along with that, he visits one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal and discusses the impact of pollution on the glorious monument. The documentary will also feature the place where Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated after achieving Indian Independence.
