While World Travel Awards celebrated its 20th Anniversary on 30th November, the prestigious travel award also announced winners for World Travel Awards 2013. At this ceremony Maharajas Express became World’s Leading Luxury Train for the 2nd consecutive year.
The other nominees featuring in this section included the Andean Explorer, Eastern & Oriental Express, Hiram Bingham, Rocky Mountaineer – GoldLeaf Service, Royal Canadian Pacific, The Blue Train, The Golden Chariot, The Indian Maharaja Deccan Odyssey, The Queen of Scots Luxury Touring Train and the Venice Simplon Orient-Express.
The votes for each specific category are cast by travel agents in over 200 countries around the world. The World Travel Awards Grand Finale was hosted at a scintillating ceremony at the LA Cigale Hotel in Doha, Qatar on 30th November 2013.
Among the guests, the industry’s elite including tourism board chiefs, Government ministers and CEOs of leading travel companies from around the globe joined the esteem guest of honor Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani, chairperson of the Qatar Museums Authority and Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulaziz al-Thani to celebrate the very best of all the travel and tourism brands.
Besides Maharajas Express, The Raj Palace, India was the recipient of the World’s Leading Heritage Hotels and Incredible India was awarded as the World’s Leading Tourist Board.
WTA established in 1993 for acknowledging, recognizing and rewarding the leading tourism, travel and hospitality organization all around the world. The WTA brand is recognized worldwide as the hallmark of industry excellence. The Wall Street Journal, a prominent reader’s magazine has heralded WTA as “the Oscar’s of the travel industry”.
